Kiki began to think about how there are only two more years of teaching Church School before Hal enters the confirmation class. She continued to be stuck on how one of the boys in the very small group Hal attends with seemed to continually discreetly bully Hal. Small things, a push, repeated kicks under the table, mocking remarks, that could easily just be boys being boys but seemed to be reserved only for Hal instead of spread evenly among the other 2 boys as well. It bug Kiki - alot. When she mentions it to Hal, he shrugs it off. Hal says things like, he is a jerk sometimes, but I ignore it. During the children's service at the end of the year, Hal was first into the choir loft and then along comes this boy and makes Hal move. Kiki couldn't insert herself and march from the pew she was in up to the choir loft to call the boy out on it, but has been stuck on ways to embarrass him when September classes start up again. But, will that just make the boy pick on Hal more? Or could Kiki's words motivate the other boys and girls in the class to call the jerk out on his behavior? And, how uncomfortable would it be for Hal? Could it be done when Hal is not there? Is there a Biblical story that could be used as a spring board? Is Kiki over thinking it?
Then, while Kiki is going through school papers that came home on the last day, she finds Hal's writing journal and this tidbit from Hal:
"Hal Golando - April 28, 2011. Would I rather be tall or small?
Would I rather be tall or small? It really doses not mater. It really maters how big your heart is. What I mean is you don't need to be tall to be happy. Of course everyone has their own dreams. They also find happiness other ways. But some times all you need is to be nice and good to others and they will be nice to you too."
